While Stanford OHS places students by ability rather than age or grade level, we typically encourage students to apply for grade 7 when they are in grade 6, or age 11 or 12. We recognize that many of our applicants have been accelerated. However, we believe that courses must be developmentally appropriate for our students and that they should learn in a cohort with other academically talented peers close to their age. The seminar-style model also requires that students show a great deal of maturity, independence, and self-advocacy. Students must have developed these skills before they are ready to succeed at Stanford OHS. Younger students may apply to Stanford OHS: Some of those applicants have been accepted, sometimes they are restricted to take only one class. If denied admission, they may be encouraged to reapply when they are older.Submit
